Supporting Faculty Recognition
Faculty Awards
University honors and awards acknowledge outstanding contributions in teaching and service by Indiana University faculty members. These include eight awards that recognize distinguished teaching and service, one in recognition of outstanding teaching by an associate instructor, and one in recognition of distinguished contributions by a part time faculty member. The distinguished teaching and service awards honor a career of distinction within the classroom or in service to the university and beyond.
In addition to the distinguished teaching and service awards, University Honors and Awards (UHA) staff provide support for nominations to Distinguished Professor, the most prestigious appointment offered by Indiana University. The title of Distinguished Professor honors those members of the IU faculty who have earned significant recognition in research scholarship, artistic or literary contributions. Individuals appointed Distinguished Professor include Nobel Prize winners, National Academy members, and scholars who have received distinguished fellowships and disciplinary recognitions.
The UHA website provides additional information on each teaching and service award and the Distinguished Professorship including eligibility guidelines and nomination dossier requirements. Examples of successful nomination dossiers are available upon request via email at ude[dot]ui[at]ahu. Nomination dossiers are accepted annually and are submitted via the online submission portal on the UHA website. 2021-2022 academic year nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. of October 15, 2021.
