Research Metrics

Demonstrating impact is an important part of a dossier for promotion and/or tenure. Research metrics, or indicators, can be valuable evidence to demonstrate impact. There are multiple types of impact – scholarly, professional, policy, community, economic, etc. Some metrics speak to scholarly impact, while others are more relevant to professional or policy impact. Specifically, we will: introduce common metrics (such as the Journal Impact Factor) and available sources at IU Indianapolis, demonstrate tools for gathering metrics and associated evidence, provide examples for using metrics responsibly in your statements and evidence of impact, and identify strategies to increase the visibility of you and your work.
