IU Board of Trustees Approves New Expressive Activity Policy

The Indiana University Board of Trustees has approved a new policy for expressive activities on campus clarifying the university’s position on free speech and expressive activities across all IU campuses.  The policy affirms IU’s commitment to free speech and peaceful assembly.

The policy is informed by recommendations from a task force created by the Indianapolis Faculty Council leadership and campus administrators comprised of faculty, staff, and students. Feedback to drafts of a policy were provided by both the task force and the IFC Executive Committee. The new policy reaffirms IU’s commitment to upholding the principles of free speech while fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive campus environment.

The university will implement measures to ensure all community members are aware of the policy that goes into effect on August 1, 2024.
