“We encounter each other in words, words spiny or smooth, whispered or declaimed, words to consider, reconsider” - Elizabeth Alexander
My discipline of study is literacy and thus I love language and focus on how it is used, what it conveys, and what it creates more so than simply describes. The poet Elizabeth Alexander describes individual words with power as “language that shimmers.” I really enjoy listening to the language people use. Sometimes I focus on a particular word someone articulates and ask myself, why did they use that word? How does it point to who they are? What does that word convey about their experiences/ understandings?
Beyond my intense interest in language, I really enjoy lifting weights; I focus on one body part per day in the gym (e.g. Monday: legs, Tuesday: arms, etc.) and love taking walks with my pug, Samson.
Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place. Kurt Vonnegut

"The grammar nerd!"
- I love IU Indianapolis! I've spent all my professional life here obtaining two degrees along the way.
- I daydream about living in a beach house in Daytona with my husband. I have three children, five grandchildren, one dog, nine fish, and my mother lives with us full-time. I love to garden (flowers), go on cruises, crochet, and listen to audiobooks. I'm a Christian which defines who I am.
- Don't touch the corner piece of cake--all of them are MINE! My lifelong (non-realistic) dream has been to visit the Great Pyramids and put my hand on a block of stone, which suddenly moves opening up an undiscovered tomb. Sadly, I can tell you what happens in all of the Brady Bunch episodes.
- Since I read a lot, I keep a list of every book I read every year (catch me on Goodreads). Favorite authors: Stephen King, Stuart Woods, Janet Evanovich, James Patterson, and Lillian Jackson Braun.
“A clear horizon — nothing to worry about on your plate, only things that are creative and not destructive… I think that’s as happy as I’ll ever want to be.” – Alfred Hitchcock
- Favorite author: Agatha Christie, favorite character: Poirot
- Favorite travel: On a mountain, in a tent – anywhere
- Favorite past time: Working the daily cryptoquip

Life is simple. Make choice and don't look back.
- Hailing from the chilly land of Winnipeg, she spent years navigating the diverse life of Toronto. Her mornings were fueled by Tim Hortons Double Double, a ritual as sacred as the Canadian winter itself. Recently, she made a leap to Indiana, bringing along her Canadian furballs: one adventurous dog and two mischievous cats, each adopted from different friends.
- Driving is always an adventure. The real kicker? She managed to crash her brand-new car to the garage door.
- Oh, and she loves suspense and detective novels! There’s nothing quite like unraveling mysteries and piecing together clues like a sleuth on a mission.
Not having the best situation, but seeing the best in your situation is the key to happiness.
