More than 40% of IUPUI students are eligible for Pell grants and many of our students report that they need to work lots of hours to help pay for school. It’s important that new faculty know how to best support students who are financially insecure.
We are excited that the Beyond Financial Aid Committee created a website to host tips and tools for IUPUI faculty, staff, and administrators to assist under-resourced students. Check out the FAQs, blog posts, and data to find the best ways you can support your students.

Did you know 1 in 5 freshman students is considered below the poverty line and considered food insecure?
Founded in 2013, the IUPUI Paws' Pantry is dedicated to helping relieve food insecurity in the IUPUI community. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to shop twice per month using a limit system.
IUPUI Paws' Closet, established in 2018, became the latest effort to support IUPUI students. It's dedicated to helping relieve student's financial burdens related to purchasing clothes.
Consider sharing these resources, making a donation or volunteering your time at the Paws' Pantry or Paws' Closet.

Need-to-Know for New Faculty

Most new faculty at large public universities enter the professoriate with training and support to conduct research, but few enter with equivalent preparation and support to launch a successful teaching career. The Early Career Teaching Academy (ECTA) provides the setting within which faculty members can develop themselves into powerful teachers who are rooted in a desire for student success through evidence-based active teaching strategies and high-impact educational practices.
The academy convenes in three intensive morning sessions (Fridays, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.) on February 11, 25, and March 11. The academy continues with two additional meetings on March 25 and September 23 (Fridays, from 1 to 3 p.m.). All sessions will be held on Zoom. Admission to the Early Career Academy is contingent on agreement to attend all five days.
The Academy invites applications from full-time faculty members in their first, second, or third year of teaching at IUPUI, IUPU Columbus, or Indiana University Fort Wayne. Interested faculty members should submit an application and secure an endorsement by a chair or supervisor.
Apply by January 16.
