Capstone Projects Important By-Product of Next Generation 2.0As applications are sought for the fifth cohort of the Next Generation 2.0 leadership program this month, you may not know that each member is required to prepare a Capstone project during their year of training. Members are asked to construct and initiate a project that would lead to change in their unit, the IUPUI campus, or within the greater Indianapolis community. To date, 84 new ideas have been proposed and/or implemented in academic and administrative units or in the community. These include new mentoring programs in the department, new alumnae surveys, online academic programming, orientation videos, space planning, new student retention programs, enhanced study abroad opportunities, affinity group assessments and a student needs assessment, among many more. Community-based projects included collaboration with the Indiana State Department of Health, the Indianapolis Mayor’s office, Riley Hospital, and the Indianapolis Public Schools. Cohort members present their projects in an all-day event at the end of the training. To see a list of projects presented by each cohort, visit the Office of Academic Affairs website. This year, the capstones will be presented on Tuesday, May 21, in the Campus Center, Room 450A, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please save the date, as the public is encouraged to attend. |

February Update from IFC President John Watson
As you may know, the Department of Education published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) related to changes in Title IX. The proposed changes are of significance to IU because, as currently proposed, they would represent some fundamental alterations in how we conduct sexual misconduct cases. Therefore, Emily Springston, university director of Institutional Equity & Title IX, led a working group to craft IU’s response to the NPRM. Faculty input was provided by IFC member Peggy Stockdale, two members of the University Faculty Council, and a faculty member from IU Northwest. The IU response was submitted for the January 30 deadline. As a reminder, we will have a town hall about the third tier within the lecturer rank on February 11, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., in the Lilly Auditorium of University Library. If you have questions or comments, feel free to contact me at ude[dot]iupui[at]ostawcj. Have your voice heard! Next IFC meeting: Tuesday, March 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. // Campus Center Theater |
