Dual Career Services

1. Deans should inform department heads and administrators of the dual career services at IU Indianapolis. Department heads should inform the dean when dual career assistance is needed to recruit or retain a faculty member or administrator.
2. Search committee chairs should be informed of the dual career services in preparation for candidate inquiries during the recruitment process. In this case, the search chair should notify the appropriate administrator when providing the search results that a candidate has requested services. The notification of possible assistance will not disqualify or diminish the candidate’s chance of receiving employment at IU Indianapolis. NOTE: It is inappropriate to inquire about dual career assistance by the search committee with the candidate during the interview process. Committees may inform the candidate of the service by providing the dual career link to all candidates.
3. Dean candidates or administrators who are seeking employment for a partner as a faculty member are encouraged to contact the executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer who can assist in networking between academic schools or departments.
4. The candidate for employment should ideally notify the need for dual career assistance as early in the recruitment process as possible so that opportunities for the partner can be discussed during final recruitment or as soon as possible thereafter. For instances of retention of a current faculty member or administrator, notification of the need for dual career assistance should occur as soon as possible.
5. Every effort will be made to assist the partner in finding suitable employment. However, it may not be possible to meet every need of the dual career couple.
6. Search committees should include language in the position advertisement as follows: “IU Indianapolis is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.”
7. If the partner is seeking a staff position at IU Indianapolis or in the community, the Office of Academic Affairs will assist with their search through contacts in Human Resources and the Office of Community Engagement.
8. Dual career assistance at IU Indianapolis does not guarantee employment for the partner. These guidelines do not constitute a contract or create entitlement or any other obligation with respect to the candidate’s partner.

Dual career services include the following:

• Review of CV or resume
• Job search guidance
• Arranging informational interviews with prospective employers
• Networking support (including social media)
• Partnership with the Office of Community Engagement and IU Indianapolis Human Resources

1. Please introduce yourself using the Dual Career Intake Form.
2. After you submit the Dual Career Intake Form, we will meet with you (locally or via Zoom) to discuss your career goals, interests, and job opportunities.
3. Once we have evaluated your needs, one or all of the following areas are contacted to begin services:
   1. Office of Academic Affairs (OAA): The Office of Academic Affairs provides assistance with faculty positions. OAA will contact other schools and departments where the client has expertise for possible opportunities. In the case of an executive search where the partner wants placement as a faculty member, OAA will broker arrangements between schools/departments.
   2. Office of Community Engagement (OCE): The Office of Community Engagement has extensive contacts in the Indianapolis community and surrounding area. OCE will provide client introduction to organizations and/or make recommendations of possible employment opportunities.
   3. Human Resources (HR): Human Resources will assist in staff positions at IU Indianapolis in which the client is interested. HR will also work with the client to identify opportunities or provide skills training for better employability.
