AC1 academic appointments are only for those working 30 hours or more, i.e., 75% FTE. AC1 appointments for less than this will be approved only in exceptional circumstances. Such appointments should be made with the AC2 or temporary designation.
AC2 appointments are restricted to instructional assignments only. The contract pay eDoc now requires entry of the total number of credit hours being taught. Additionally, FTE is limited based on the position. Those which are 10-month positions are limited to no more than 69% FTE (27 standard hours). Those which are 12-month positions are limited to no more than 49% FTE (19 standard hours). No exceptions to these limits will be approved. Please note that this includes combined FTE with other departments.
Those appointed in AC2 positions MAY NOT be hired into temporary (hourly) positions when there is an active AC2 job – whether there is a contract or not.
All AC2 compensation rates should be supported by a school pay policy, a copy of which should be sent to our office at acadhr@iu.edu before eDocs are submitted.
AC2 appointments are limited to either one semester or, in the case of 12-month appointees, to a six month contract.
Appointments should not be withheld pending knowledge of the exact number of sections to be taught. If need be, appointments can be changed or canceled. Please contact our office for assistance if this situation arises.
For AC3s, graduate student academics, no appointment will be approved for less than 37.5% FTE. Additionally, if you know the student will not be enrolling in at least six credit hours (or a full-time-equivalent thesis course), you may not hire them as an AC3. For graduate student appointments which do not meet these qualifications, you must use a temporary position.
