Academic Specialists at IU Indianapolis

Except in the School of Medicine, no new academic specialists may be appointed.  

The expectation is that tenure-track, clinical, professor of practice, lecturer, and research scientist classifications will fulfill faculty needs, and staff positions will fill support needs. 

• Faculty roles include:
  • Clinical faculty. May be assigned service or teaching duties, including internship and fieldwork supervision. Can be promoted for excellence in service or teaching.
  • Lecturer. May be assigned primarily teaching and teaching-support duties. May only be promoted for excellence in teaching.

• Staff roles include:
  • Academic Advisor.
  • Career Services Staff.
  • Recruitment, Marketing.
  • Lab technician, lab manager.
  • Consult with school or central HR business partners for staff position possibilities.

Existing academic specialists: Units may continue existing employees in these positions. Consider changing them to faculty or staff positions. A change to faculty or staff appointment may be done without any external search. Contact ude[dot]ui[at]rhdaca for assistance.
